It is a billion billion bytes, Wow. I am definitely a digital native and proud of it, but times are changing rapidly. I have lived in Palo Alto since the Eighties, a city where Apple integrated their technology in many of the surrounding schools. I think because we used technology on a daily basis I am still very interested in the latest video games and gadgets. Even though I played outside until the complex lights came on, I also found the time to play and learn technology. The key to gaining technological skills is exposure.
Today I realized that social media does suit a purpose and can be very useful in the classroom. I have battled with the idea that most social networks and communities promote wasting time. I can see why societies youth are drawn to it and as a teacher I need to find ways to use it productively.
Class was surprisingly refreshing. I was introduced to new lingo and ideas that I have never heard about and I am very eager to learn more about what exists in the world of technology. We used a program called Corkboard Me which allowed us to write notes to each other on post-its. I am excited to learn about different ways to integrate technology because I feel it is inevitable.

What happened to the exeabyte? I thought that was interesting. I am glad to be in a class with you considering our backgrounds are similar. We have both been educated in Palo Alto, making our perspective on education very different from those who are not from PA.
ReplyDeleteI feel that in PA, you are exposed to so much in terms of technology and the access to it.
I also think it is interesting that we grew up in a time where technology was just entering the world and are able to learn about it and use it daily. Now there are kids that are just growing up in this world and pretty are required to know how to use it.
ReplyDeleteI found class very interesting and informative too!! I know we will learn many useful gadgets and tools to help us incorporate them into our classroom. As teachers we need to keep up with the changing technology.
